Excursions

Saturday, September 20th

Program A)

POMPEII Excavations

A pleasant and informative itinerary aimed at uncovering the most evocative and famous archaeological site in the world, a Roman town whose lived experience has remained fixed in place forever since a distant morning of AD 79, a point at which Vesuvius brought it both destruction and immortality. Pompeii town owes its exceptional state of preservation to the way in which it was buried, as over six meters of ash and pumice covered its remains, shielding them for many centuries from the ravages of time.
Lunch in a restaurant featuring local specialties.

The tour continues with a visit to the Coral Museum “Liverino”

Famous for its collection of coral, the museum sports a collection of more than a thousand pieces between coral sculptures and cameos. Some of the items on display are produced on site, while others originate from all over the world and from every historical period. The collection has contributed to the celebrity and prestige of the entrepreneur who founded the museum, which is located under the workshop. The exhibition space has been created by an  excavation six meters deep inside the volcanic rock, and it benefits from very  modern environmental systems and methods for display.

The cost of the tour includes: bus transfer, entrance fees for sites, guides, and lunch.

 Program B)

I Campi Flegrei

A territory that has its roots in myth and that has achieved an important spot in history. The “land of fire”, of which Homer and Virgil wrote, is an enormous volcanic area created by numerous craters among which the only one still active is the Solfatara, where the magmatic activity still goes on today, visible in the fumaroles and the thermal hot springs.

The tour continues with the ” Piscina Mirabilis” (a subterranean “cathedral”), the “BaiaMuseum”, and the Flavian Amphitheater which is the third largest in the Roman world (after those of Rome and Capua). Capable of holding up to 40,000 spectators, it was in this arena that some of the first Christian martyrs died.

Lunch in a restaurant featuring local specialties or, if possible, a nice barbecue on the site of the Solfatara, amid the fumaroles of the main crater.

The cost of the tour includes: bus transfer, entrance fees for sites, guides, and lunch.

Program C)

Costa Divina, Amalfi and Ravello

Amalfi is a real pearl in Southern Italy: its history is long and interesting, its monuments are beautiful, and its atmosphere is charming, even magical.

It is bathedby a wonderful sea, while its natural beauty remains pristine, dotted as it is with olive trees and citrus orchards amid the pastel – colored houses that seem to hang suspended in mid-air, but are set of course on terra firma.

Lunch in a restaurant featuring local specialties.

The tour continues withRavello.

Ravello represents a perfect combination, at its highest level, of natural beauties, artistic monuments and cultural memories. It is a small town with few inhabitants, located off the beaten path, which has been able to exert influence for centuries on a multitude of brilliant personages who drew here their inspiration for their various and marvellous works. Today it remains extraordinary for its respect for intellectual activity and for the intensity of its cultural life.

Villa Rufolo, Villa Cimbrone and “Villa Episcopio” are some of the main attraction of the town.

The cost of the tour includes: bus transfer, entrance fees for sites, guides, and lunch.
